I saw Carol in the cinema. When I’d seen the movie I had a strong melancholic feeling which I still had the day after. Melancholic in a nice way. The movie draws you into a deep melancholy state you won’t want to leave. Like an intense kind of falling in love, one that hurts just a little bit. It’s a movie you’ll want to watch over and over again, just to experience that haunting feeling.
It’s a feeling kindled by Carter Burwell’s compositions. The music maintains a clear and recognizable sound that holds steady all throughout the movie, making sure listeners stay in that melancholy, romantic mood. Besides the composed music, the filmmakers use old classics that take you right back to the 1950s, the time in which the movie takes place.
